Western Dressage Hi-Points 2011

From left Hi-Point winner Katrina Pedlar with Toby, caller Claire Shand and runner-up Dorothy Hasty with Appledore Miss Serenade - both horses are 18 years old so who says you can't teach old 'uns new tricks !  Toby is an Irish Draught whose favourite pastime is barrel racing, whilst Serenade is 50% American Saddlebred and 37% Arab.

Katrina really first started Western at the WES Spring Clinic in 2010 and discovered that Toby thrived on the Western training philosophy. She says "Being allowed to make mistakes and learning through pressure and release has given him so much more confidence and he is a fitter, happier horse for it !  Western Dressage has been a comfortable training crossover for us to learn the different paces and discipline needed hopefully to get brave enough for competing in Horsemanship and other Western classes".  (Sadly Toby became ill and died towards the end of 2012).

Dorothy has owned Serenade since she was 9 months old and has done all her own schooling.  She showed her as a youngster and under saddle, and they have done unaffiliated dressage & pleasure rides.  She started Western riding with her some years ago as she had always wanted to try it and has earned a few WES points.
